Held from August 8th-15th of 1994, 24 provinces, cities, prefectures, 7 single cities and 3 special economic zones including 1,135 companies attended the fair. Among them were 794 from five provinces and seven sides, taking 70% of the exhibitors. 137 exhibitors were from other provinces. 204 were foreign-invested companies. 1380 booths were set up and 3200 square meters of exposed space were used. 5466 merchants presented who were from 59 countries. The general turnover was 1462 million US$. Among it was 501 million US$ export (including 78 million US$ border trade). 277 million US$ import (including 33 million US$ border trade and 6 million US$ overseas trade). Border trade turnover amounted to 111 million US$. Burma took 75.1% of the proportion. Vietnam 12.7% and Laos 12.2%. The main export commodities were textiles, machinery, chemicals, household goods and foodstuff. main import commodities features products like farm produces and mineral products. The projects introduced are 117 reaching an amount of 642 million US$ investment. the scopes introduced foreign investment are electric power, non-ferrous metal process, phosphorous chemical, light industry, machinery and electric products, construction material, and plantation. Technologic introduction contracts were 26 of them. Mainly involved tobacco machinery, telecommunication equipment, chemical equipment and so on. 52 import contracts were signed involved cigarette auxiliary material, chemical raw material, medical appliance, steel material, cotton edible oil and so on. 6 construction contracts were signed dealing with 42 million US$. The items involved were factory building, dam, villa, and export labors of construction, services and cooks. This session features as: 1) centralized with export, the overseas exhibitors increased. 2) the structures of foreign investment introduction were optimized. Projects dealing with infrastructures, production, and technical reform increased. And each project dealt double contracted sum than the previous session averagely. 3) Large varieties of enterprises attended the fair. The newly qualified import and export enterprises took 45% of the proportion. 4) Border trade volume was enlarged. The contracted volume reached 580 million RMB. It brought wider effect of the fair on the neighboring countries.
